Finally a well-made can opener that is truly made with Stainless Steel
Tired of poorly-manufactured can openers from China that falsely claim to be made of Stainless Steel but are actually electro-plated common steel that readily rusts I am so glad to find a can opener (this Oxo brand can opener) that is truly made with Stainless-Steel and is very well-designed. The manufacturing tolerances between the cutting wheel and the mating gears is excellent. It opens the cans as readily as the old Swing-A-Way's that were manufactured in the USA with the added advantages of being made of Stainless-Steel and with much better designed handles. Very happy with this Oxo product. Regarding older reviews that state that this OXO can opener has rusted, it is not clear to me whether the product has been redesigned since those reviews or perhaps those users exposed the OXO can opener to localized corrosion that takes place even in stainless steel when stainless steel is exposed to environments that contain chlorides (as it could happen if they cleaned the OXO can opener in the dishwasher with a cleaner containing chlorides). The fact that the OXO can opener that I received is not plated but instead is made with stainless-steel is obvious when looking at it as well as by the fact that it says stainless steel on its handles (see the attached photograph). On the other hand looking at photographs from other reviewers I notice big differences: a photograph from one of the reviewers reads "OXO China" and does not read "stainless steel" while the OXO I received nowhere reads "China" and clearly reads "stainless steel" (as shown in the attached photograph). I am a verified purchaser of this OXO can opener, I imagine that another explanation to explain the discrepancy with the photographs shown by other reviewers is that they may have received a different product if they purchased it from another vendor.

Finally
Over the last couple of years I have had a terrible time finding a can opener that I could depend on. I've probably spent $150 buying can openers from cheap to fairly expensive can openers. None of them have lasted. I finally bought a industrial can opener that would be used in a restaurant environment. It actually bolts to your counter top. It works great but its not practical being that its mounted to a counter top in my garage. So I did a lot of research and came up with the OXO Steel can opener. I works flawlessly. I've only had it a couple months but its great well built sturdy and fits comfortably in mine or my wife's hands. If it continues to work over this next year I will buy a couple more and put them away in-case OXO stops making this model. I highly recommend this can opener.

Lovely! Hope it lasts.......
Well, I hope this lasts. Finding a good can opener is a pain. This one glides gloriously and smoothly. I love that it does its job and does it effortlessly. You would think that wouldn't be to much to ask.......you know, for a can opener to open a can and all, but.......these days it is a big deal to find one that works.

The best manual opener
This is our 2nd one of these openers - the first one inexplicably seized up on us after 7 or 8 years, so it takes a little hit on durability but I'm not convinced that 1 or more of 3 teenagers didn't have something to do with that... That being said, the weight, the torque, the ease with which this opener makes quick and virtually effortless work of opening any sized can makes this my #1 can opener of all time. If you have mild/moderate arthritis but want a manual opener, this is an excellent pick but keep in mind that there are also several very good electric openers on the market nowadays.

The last can opener you'll need to buy.
I bought this can opener a number of years ago after I gave up on electrics. A friend has bought (and broken) two cheaper can openers in that time. After the third $8 to $10 opener fell apart recently, he finally listened to me, and spent a few bucks more for this one. He's as happy with it as I've been with mine. In the several years I've had mine, the blade has not dulled and it still looks/works like it's brand new. I'd bet this opener will outlive us all! And I hopefully have 25 - 30 years to go, he's 34, so he's got a few more. If you've been looking for a great, easy opening, can opener, give this OXO a try. I don't think you'll regret spending the extra 4 or so dollars, when you don't need to replace it every few years. Can openers are like vacuum cleaners, a necessity, but no fun to shop for.

The smoothest and nicest can opener I have ever used.
This is the smoothest and nicest can opener I have ever used. So far it opens cans with an ease I have not ever experienced before. I have come to really appreciate OXO as a design company that cares about what they are making and takes pride in it. They don't always make the very best in a category but when they don't they are still very close to the mark. I would be hard pressed to guess how many OXO designed products you would find in my kitchen. I also have the "Made in USA Can Opener" which is the traditional design and of course made in US and a very heavy well crafted product, but I have to say this approach with the extra large knob is a winner and in my opinion a better improved design over other openers.

A great can opener
I was really tired of cheap can openers that stopped working in a few months. I don’t know why can openers used to last decades, like the one that was liberated by my roommate, but are now basically crap from the getgo. I don’t know yet if this can opener is a true keeper, but I hope it is. Opening a can is almost effortless. There are no chewed up edges, nor —- and this is the worst —- when the opener pushes the lid down and doesn’t open it. My verdict — give it a try. It’s effortless, ergonomic, doesn’t use electricity and is stainless steel so it shouldn’t rust.

"can opener" seems so inadequate for such a great tool
Okay, my old rusty can opener died after many years of use. It was rusty, the teeth were wearing off, and it slipped and skipped when opening a can, resulting in frustration, scuffed knuckles, and a few cuss words. Being a cheapskate, I was trying to stretch the life as long as possible, but finally it gave up the ghost. While I was looking for a replacement I found this thing and read its many rave reviews. I'm thinking "it's just a damn can opener, not a ginzu knife, why all the fuss?" I bought this, based on all the rave reviews, thinking "What I sucker I am, I could get a can opener like my old one for ten bucks, I'm paying double that for this thing" but I went ahead and got it. I have been using this for six months now, and can attest that it is worth every penny. It is very easy to "start", getting a good grip and "bite" into the can lid. It has a smooth action, is easy to turn, and there is no slipping or skipping. The handle is shaped so that it is easy to grip, and is does not dig into your hand or stress your fingers as my old one did. My wife and teenage daughter find it easy to use and easy on the hands. It washes up easily by hand or dishwasher, and is well made so there is no rust or other deterioration. On top of all that it looks great! I highly recommend it.

Probably the most comfortable hand held can opener I have ever used
My old metal one was starting to fail so I ordered this one. Totally worth it. It is well balanced, cleans easily, and the action is butter smooth. The oversized knob is awesome, I opened 6 cans in a row and my hands did not cramp like usual. Also, the cans stayed flat the whole time, which was nice. Color me impressed, I hope it lasts a long time because it is pretty good so far.

Still Sharp and Rust Free After 6 Years
I had gone through several cheap can openers and decided to give this one a try. I purchased this one and am still using it six years later. Blade is still sharp, and there is no rust. Admittedly, I do not use a lot of canned food, on average I open ~3-4 cans weekly. That said, this is comfortable to use, easy to clean by hand or dishwasher. I love the way it opens all the way out for cleaning. I highly recommend this can opener for its flawless usability.
